In May 2013, Camp Massad launched a $1,000,000 Capital Campaign to fund the revitalization of the campsite. Improvements to the buildings and grounds are needed to ensure that Camp Massad continues its vital role in out community and is a summer destination for children and youth for many years to come.
GOOD NEWS! Camp Massad’s one million dollar goal has been ACHIEVED!!! Todah Rabah (תודה רבה) to the Jewish Foundation, The Asper Foundation, The Winnipeg Foundation, Community Places and all 150 of our generous donors for their support. The numbers continue to grow! (You may still contribute up to and including December 31, 2015)
June 28, 2015 marked the official ribbon cutting of the renovated dining hall, Chadar Ochel (חדר אוכל) and the dedication of Mercaz Tapper. Over 200 people participated in the celebration and none of the needed to wear rubber boots!
Phase 1 of Camp Massad’s revitalization plan is complete: drainage is in place and the campsite is dry! Upon entering the camp site, you will immediately be awestruck by the new graveled parking lot and bus loop. Walk further, and you will see a beautiful rock garden that improves water drainage. Thank you to Jeff Frank of HTFC Planning and Design.
Phase 2 has begun: an 8 foot covered deck has been added to the front of the Chadar Ochel as well as a screened room addition and two accessible washrooms. Thank you to Lanny Silver, Architect, the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, and the Asper Foundation for making this iconic Massad building ready for the next 60 years of memory making!
In addition, there is an upgraded counselor-in-training cabin, “Mercaz Tapper”, in memory of Dr. Richard Tapper, long standing Camp Masadnick. The building upgrade was designed by Dov Sector. Counselors-in-training now have their own lounge/programming space and the Camp has gained a new outdoor stage.
There are many improvements throughout the campsite: 3 new flagpoles, a new fire pit, new benches, mezzo, and a huge barbecue.
Next summer, plans include: a new Refet/welcome centre (which will include a permanent door wall), and a renovated Oolam (main programming building) as well as other improvements.
The final phase will see a brand new Marpeah (infirmary).
THANK YOU, TODAH RABAH, to all of our donors to date! !תודה רבה
While our 1 million dollar goal has been reached, the campaign is not over! we continue to have projects in the areas of accessibility, pathways, cabin upgrades, common area renovations, and much more!
